My Husband and I are always looking for ways to help our children wash their hands more appropriately. But my biggest concern is I want them to be able to wash there hands for the recommended amount of time. So I feel it's extremely important that they learn how to wash their hands at home. Then no matter where they go I will feel comfortable in knowing they are doing it correctly.
I know my kids love to sing the Happy Birthday song when washing their hands but this is something I don't see them doing at school. I tell my kids wash your hands after they sneeze, go to the restroom, or if they touch any surfaces that may contain germs.
I recently was able to try the Musical Hand Wash Timer as pictured above. My first thought was my kids would not like it, but to my surprise they love using the Musical Hand Wash Timer. It allows them to feel more safe as they know when the music is done they are finished. They love that it fits on their favorite soap bottle.
Washing your hands...
Pediatricians, the Centers For Disease Control (CDC), and other experts are published daily in articles with guidelines for washing your hands.
The Disney Musical Hand Wash Timers fit on any liquid soap pump dispenser and feature kids’ favorite Disney characters and music along with flashing lights to encourage kids to wash their hands for 20-25 seconds (the CDC recommended wash time to eliminate germs to a level that will lead to better hygiene). Best of all, parents won’t have to change the brands of soap they know and trust because the patented timer design fits on all standard soap brands.
The CDC Recommends .......
When washing hands with soap and water:
- Wet your hands with clean running water and apply soap. Use warm water if it is available.
- Rub hands together to make a lather and scrub all surfaces.
- Continue rubbing hands for 20 seconds. Need a timer? Imagine singing "Happy Birthday" twice through to a friend!
- Rinse hands well under running water
- Dry your hands using a paper towel or air dryer. If possible, use your paper towel to turn off the faucet.
I know the above can be really hard for a young child to remember especially if they are at school or in any other public location. But that's why sometime you have to make it fun for them. I know that may seem like a hard thing to do, but helping them learn can prevent many diseases.
When your child is at home the Musical Hand Wash Timer can be very useful as it helps them get in the routine of washing their hands for 20 to 25 seconds. Believe me this does make my job more easier.
About the Musical Hand Wash Timer
The Musical Hand Wash Timers fit on any liquid soap pump dispenser and feature kids’ favorite characters and music along with flashing lights to encourage kids wash their hands for 20-25 seconds (the recommended wash time to eliminate germs to a level that will lead to better hygiene). Best of all, parents won’t have to change the brands of soap they know and trust because the patented design fits on all standard soap brands – including wide and thin nozzle brands.
With the Musical Hand Wash Timer, the natural action of pushing down on the pump to dispense soap triggers the music to play. Each unit will get more than 1,000 uses – which is a lot of hand washing!
My overall Opinion of the Musical Hand Wash Timer
The concept is quite brilliant! But there are a few minor problems I ran into - first I noticed that the timer did not fit on soaps that had a skinnier nozzle. At times it kept coming off or twisting side to side. However it was able to fit on the soap that had a bigger nozzle and worked fine. When using I suggest to use small amounts of soap as you don't want the soap to become clogged. (this may be of my kids doing) But other than that I love it!
The Musical Hand Timer cost $3.99 and you can purchase one here on the Get Healthy Hands website.
A musical hand wash timer is such a cool idea. :) Instead of using a paper towel to turn off the faucet I soap up my hands and soap up the faucet handles and then I go through the steps of washing my hands. That way when I touch the handles again they aren't germ infested.
