My Journey with Proactiv Solutions

I have used countless skin care products that are formulated to help with diminishing acne. Acne has always been something that I have suffered with since I was thirteen. Over the counter products were always my number one resource when trying to treat my acne. To be honest they worked for about a month or two but eventually they would stop working. I wanted to try a different approach other than over the counter products, so I thought that I would give Proactiv Solutions a try.

Before my initial use, I cleansed my face for a week to make sure my face was clean and free of any dirt. Then I used a Facial Spa to open my pores to get ready for the Proactiv Process. I also use dry cotton rounds that can be found in the beauty isle for around $2.00, I used these as they are clean unlike wash cloths plus they are disposable. Lastly, before I applied anything to my face I made sure my hands were cleaned as this is important before putting your hands on your face.

Step by Step on how I used Proactiv...

Step 1 The Cleanser:
I would use the Cleanser twice daily once at 11:00 am then again at 7:00 pm. I did this for 3 weeks as I wanted my face to adjust to the formula. I only applied a small amount to my face as I wanted to make sure I didn't get any allergic reactions. I feel it's important to only use a small amount in the beginning as using more doesn't = quicker or better results.

First, I would take my hands and use Luke-warm water to cover my entire face then I would apply only a small amount of cleanser to my wet face. I would generously rub it on my face in a circular motion while moving my finger in a up position. I would do this for about 2 minutes. Then I would rinse my face again with Luke-warm water while having my eyes closed of course, then I would use the cotton rounds to remove any excess dirt and or water.

Step 2 The Toner:

I would use the toner immediately after applying the cleanser, I used the Cotton Rounds to apply it to my entire face. Again, I did this while using a circular motion with my fingers while applying. Note, I used the circular motion to apply as this is a great way to give yourself a facial massage hehe. Then I would wait at least 3 minutes to allow it to completely dry.

Step 3 Repairing lotion:

After applying the Toner, I used a very small amount of Repairing lotion to cover my entire face, I applied it using a circular motion with my fingers. I rubbed it in until it was completely dry to touch.

My Take

I have Combination skin and I have moderate acne with a few blemishes. I have used this product for approximately 3 weeks and I have seen remarkable results. In the beginning, I did notice a few white pimples around my nose area but after using the facial mask they went away the next day. I don't know why but my nose tends to be the most oiliest part of my body. I do recommend using Moisturizer after each usage I used both a day and night version but I only applied very small amounts. However I do recommend that you wear a white shirt when using the Proavtiv Products.

With any program I learned that you need to start out with the smallest amount as you want to give your face time to adjust to it. I also recommend you use a SPF moisturizer in the mornings to protect yourself before going outside as you don't want your face being exposed to harmful sun rays.

Overall, I recommend Proactiv Solutions, if used in moderation without over applying. Each person may see different results that's why it is important to learn how much to use for your skin. Keep in mind I have very sensitive skin thats why I applied the smallest amount possible.

Please note, I would have posted a photo but I don't have a Digital Camera but I am in the process of getting one, I did try to take a photo with my camera phone but the photo's came out too dark and you couldn't really get a clear look of my face.

Considering that I will continue to use Proactive I will post a photo as soon as I get a Camera so you guys can see first hand.

  1. I still...still....still have acne and haven't found anything. I'm so tired of it ... I thought I'd be done with it by now.
Do you think it would work?

  2. Hi Tracy,

Well personally I think it all depends on your skin type and or how severe your acne is. I know first hand their are no cures for acne.

Certain products can be different based off the individual needs. I recommend you first start a daily regimen using a mild product.

Daily moisturizing is key as well as stated I only use Dry Cotton Rounds as sometime wash cloths can contain perfumes that can contribute to your acne.

If you have more questions you can send me a email and I will help you in any way I can.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the feedback... Its so frustrating because its just 'there'... its not bad as in cystic but it never goes away completely either.

And I don't moisturize like I should. I know I should but... the acne. sigh

  4. Hi Tracy,
Thanks for this post. I have been wanting to try Proactiv but have not yet. My acne is not really bad so every time it clears up, I think I don't need it. Then, of course, the hormones kick in. My system has been wacky since having my third child. Birth control pills apparently were keeping all of the hormone stuff at bay. Now, I am not on them and wow....the real me is difficult to live with. Good luck to you!

  5. Hi Ty,
I used Proactiv and it worked for me. However, it did not do its magic for my teenage daughter.

I still occasionally use the refining mask.

    Good-luck...

  6. Hi Jen,

I'm so sorry it didn't work for your daughter, it may be a little too strong for her maybe you can try something more gentle. I use Cetaphil for my two daughters and so far it works for them.

The refining mask is wonderful I so love it, every time I get a little breakout I put it on my problem areas and it clears my skin by the next day.

I'm so happy that it worked for you.
