Do you have a relative or a loved one that has been detained and held in custody by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Department? It is very hard to adjust to life in a country that is not your native and it is difficult for foreigners to settle into their lives without going through the strict scrutiny of authorities. If you are going through this process, then you should know what immigration bonds are because they’ll help you a lot!
When an individual has been detained in this way, they are not dealing with the State but with the Federal government and an immigration bond is a federal bond that assures the court that the individual detained can be depended upon to be present on all future court proceedings on all the scheduled dates. Two types of immigration bonds are present, delivery bond and voluntary departure bond. For the delivery bond, the court is assured of the individual’s compliance and he or she will be temporarily released so that they can meet with an immigration lawyer. If the individual fails to meet with the conditions of the bond, they will be in greater legal trouble.
Voluntary departure bond gives the court guarantee that the individual will leave the country at completely their own expense and as soon as possible; once again, failure to cooperate can lead into a lot of legal trouble. The good thing is that the bond can be posted either by the detainee themselves or by a friend or relative and the bond must be paid in cash. However, when the obligations of the bond have been fulfilled, the money is returned to the person who posted the bond but the money can take a long while to be received back. This is the reason why many detainees may find it hard to find family or friends who can post a bond for them. But they have alternatives as well, such as, hiring a bondsman to post a bond for them. Of course, such extra services will require extra fees as well but if the bond can give you the time and liberty to get a lawyer and find out about your options, then you can save yourself.
A very important aspect that detainees will think about is how to find a bondsman or how to get hold of these bonds at all. An immigration bondsman can be contacted through the Yellow Pages of a telephone directly but the newer and faster method of finding not just one, but many immigration bondsmen is through the internet. Usually they charge a fee that is not much but will vary and they usually provide services easily and conveniently.
It is your job, however, as detainee or a friend of a detainee looking for a bondsman to make sure that they are qualified and experienced and most importantly, they have a bond immigration license. An immigration bond can help foreigners in distress arrange for the help they need so if you’re one of them, ask for help and get to know more about these bonds.
