Did y'all know:
1. 96% of school nurses agree that when a child comes to school sick, other children tend to catch his or her virus.
2. The Center for Disease Control recommends facial tissues as one of the key strategies to minimize cold and flu viruses.
3. Every year, the U.S. alone reports more than one billion colds and 35 – 50 million flu cases.
4. Boost your immune system with Vitamin D – enjoying a little sunshine can help.
5. To help reduce your fever, put wet towels around your shoulders instead of your forehead.
6. Avoid using humidifiers when you’re sick – they can actually spread the flu germs.
7. Not all liquids hydrate equally – stick to water, herbal tea and fruit juice when you’re sick.
8. All colds are contagious, regardless of mucus color.

How do you keep your family healthy during the cold and flu season?
Wow, I didn't know about putting wet towels on the shoulders- should it be tepid, cool or warm water?
ReplyDeleteA bad cold has already been through our household--including the cat! Our stock of tissues is about out, so it's a good thing I'll be going to Sam's Club this week and can replenish our supply.
ReplyDeleteWe buy Kleenex in bulk when cold season hits. With multiple kids at different schools someone is always bringing home something.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to keep everyone else healthy in the house when there is just one sick one, but we've managed so far! Keeping the kids from getting sick from each other is the hardest part, but we try to keep them separate and encourage frequent handwashing when they are sick
ReplyDeleteIt's tough, since many parents work & too many absences is a problem... kids tend to go to school ill, more often than they should.
ReplyDeleteOur #1 tip is lots and lots of handwashing. When he gets to school, when he leaves school, before dinner, when he wakes up... everything is a handwashing event. Better safe than sorry!
ReplyDeleteMy kids are sick now and we've loaded up on Kleenex!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a tough time. I go through like a tissue box a week this time of year.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the title of this post, I wondered if you had been spying on my house... that's all we are doing these days. Both boys have colds, but thankfully, they are just dealing with the runny nose symptoms... no fevers or anything else.
ReplyDeleteThanks goodness for Kleenex.
I'm currently battling my worst cold in about three years. I'm finally on the mend after about two and a half weeks, but it was a long, difficult road. I used a ton of tissues and was certainly glad I stocked up in the past!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know #6 but it does make sense.
ReplyDeleteWe go through tissues constantly I swear I'm always buying tissues and they are never around when I need them.
ReplyDeleteI am always prepared with the antidotes for the family. I brought over a big pot of homemade chicken noodle soup for my daughter last weekend.
ReplyDeleteLots of hand washing and antibac lotion!
ReplyDeleteI never knew that about humidifiers. We have definitely used our fair share of Kleenex in the last few weeks.
ReplyDeleteMy little one had the sniffles this weekend & thank goodness we had some Kleenex around!
ReplyDeleteWe try to keep healthy by washing our hands and coughing and sneezing into our elbows.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about humidifiers, but I'm a big hand washer so I'm really careful that way. I also don't touch my face if at all possible.
