Simple Storage Solutions for Your Laundry Room

Chances are you spend way more time in the laundry room than you'd like. I spend a tremendous amount of time in the laundry room, and believe me it's no fun. No one likes to do laundry in a dungeon, I know I don't. Storage solutions can change the overall look and feel of any laundry room.

#1 Hampers

Instead of one really large hamper, consider purchasing different hampers for various laundering needs. For example, you can purchase a hamper for each member in your family, they don't have to be all that big as small hampers will do just fine. You can add personal labels or cute note cards to each hamper to identify the owner. OR you can assign a hamper to the different types of laundry. One hamper might be used to store clothes that need to be washed in cold water. Another hamper can hold all of your linens, colored clothes, whites, etc.

#2 Collapsible Drying Rack

A collapsible rack can come in handy especially when drying line dry items. When you're not using it, you can fold it up and store it in your closet or other hidden location. When you need to dry delicates OR cold wash items you can unfold it and stand it upright. Easy peasy, right?

#3 Detergents, Fabric Softeners, and More

Detergents and fabric softeners tend to get a little messy. An easy-to-clean storage cart, bin, or shelf can be an extremely useful tool. Consider a wheeled cart with large shelves as this can make organizing your items a breeze. If your cart has wheels you can pull it out when you need it and tuck it away when you're all done. Attractive storage bins can make it easy to store your detergent in an attractive and useful way, too. So simple!

#4 Pocket Jackpot

What do you do with all of the items found in the pockets of jeans, jackets, and shirts? Create a lost and found jar, no seriously! A clear jar can be a fun way to build an interesting collection of lost and found items, too bad this doesn't work for socks, bummer! A simple clear jar is an easy storage solution, we currently use old pickle jars and they're the perfect size for those lost and found items. If you want to match a color scheme you can get crafty with a bit of decoupage, too.

#5 Folding Station

It often makes good sense to fold the clothing right after it's taken from the dryer. A folding table and a hanging rack can make your life a whole lot easier, trust me! If you're tight for space, you can find folding tables that mount to the wall. They're perfect because you can fold them up when they're not in use. If you're short on time, ask each member of your household to help fold his or her own laundry, this option works better for me.
