When Nintendo unveiled the latest version of its popular handheld gaming system—the Nintendo 3DS— buyers couldn’t wait to get it. Featuring 3D movie and video playback capability, 3D vision when used with compatible games and a built-in 3D camera, the Nintendo 3DS soon became one of the best-selling gaming units on the market. To help you decide which games your children might enjoy, we’ve compiled a list of 7 kid-favorite Nintendo 3DS games you might want to consider.
1. Super Mario 3D Land
Mario must race to save the princess from the evil Bowser in this platform puzzle-based game by jumping on enemies and shooting fireballs. The bad guys are presented more as obstacles to be overcome, rather than scary monsters to be defeated, which makes this game a good choice for the younger crowd.
2. Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars 3D
Based on the popular television cartoon series, this game is an excellent choice for young Star Wars fans and Lego fans.
With puzzles to be solved and battles to be fought, Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars 3D spans the entire Clone Wars era.
This game also offers Jedi Force leaps, mini-games and all new weapons like Lightsabers that allow your character to climb walls.
3. Combat of Giants Dinosaurs 3D
Kids get to fight dinosaurs against other dinosaurs in this exciting role-playing game, where life is viewed from the perspective of the dinosaur. The goal of the game is to become the champion of the Jurassic World, and players roam through the jungle to find special rewards. Players are also able to choose and customize their own dinosaurs with over 35 color and pattern combinations.
4. Rabbids Travel in Time 3D
Traveling through time in their Time Washing Machine, these naughty Rabbids are determined to scurry around throughout major events in human history, wreaking havoc along the way.
Kids dress their Rabbids in crazy outfits, defeat enemies and leap over obstacles as they attempt to ruin great historical moments, perhaps learning a thing or two along the way. (But… shhhh, don’t tell them it’s educational.)
5. Petz Fantasy 3D
This game allows your child to experience multiple pet simulations that hatch from 20 magical eggs.
With more than 40 outfits and accessories for pets, your child also learns the basics of pet care by having to feed and clean them, making this great training for a real live pet in the future.
6. Pokemon Rumble Blast 3DS
This is the first Pokemon game created exclusively for Nintendo 3DS, and allows kids to collect Pokemon and engage in battles.
Offering over 600 Pokemon from which to choose, kids can fight boss Pokemon to create more of a challenge, or fight in Battle Royale mode where they struggle to be the last Pokemon standing in the arena and win points.
7. Adventure Time: Hey Ice King, Why’d you steal our garbage?!! 3DS
Based on the hilarious Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, this somewhat awkwardly-titled game is a fun way to get interactive with Finn and Jake, the characters you already know and love.
The premise of this Nintendo 3DS game is based upon the Ice King, one of the major protagonists on the series, and his theft of Finn and Jake’s garbage.
The Ice King uses the stolen garbage to build a Garbage Princess, and thus begins the adventure to stop him.
This clever, Emmy-nominated show transfers well into the video game format by giving kids plenty of lands to explore, battles to fight, magical powers and appearances by many of the favorite recurring characters.
With prices that run anywhere from $19.99-$39.99 on average, it’s important to know what you’re getting before you buy a Nintendo 3DS game. Hopefully you’ll see a few titles on this list you think your children will enjoy, and go get some fun new games to play.
